Torres Vedras Wellington Defense Lines
"In 1810, the peninsula north of Lisbon saw the rise up of one of the most effective military systems in the world, the Lines of Torres Vedras. Anticipating a third Napoleonic invasion that glided to capture the capital, there were built in secret three lines with 152 fortifications, in a rugged region of 88 kms, between the Tagus River and the Atlantic Ocean, in close collaboration of British engineers with the Portuguese population.
